A devastated 32-year-old woman has collapsed and died at the funeral of her mum who died after contracting coronavirus.
Laura Richards, could not be saved by relatives and the vicar after she suffered a heart attack as mum Julie Murphy, 63, was being lowered into the ground, reports.
Mum-of-four Julie, who had multiple sclerosis and dementia, died on March 15 after contracting coronavirus at her nursing home.
The double tragedy has left the family devastated and horrified, Laura’s half-sister Sadie, 45, said.
She said: “They were lowering mum into the ground and Laura suddenly said ‘I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe’.
“She was clutching her chest. My daughter told her to sit down, and put a coat around her but she could barely speak or catch her breath.
“Even the vicar tried to help save her life. But there was nothing that could be done, she had a massive heart attack.
“To lose your sister at your mum’s funeral – it’s like a horror film. She was only 32. I think her body just gave up on her.
“I can’t get my head around that it happened just as mum’s coffin was being lowered. It’s just horrible. It’s wrong.”
In the days before her death, Laura posted a touching tribute to her mum on Facebook, saying: “I [love] you mum” – written with a heart emoji.
A witness to the graveside tragedy told The Sun : “It really was horrendous – Julie was being laid to rest and her daughter started saying ‘my chest is tight, my chest is tight – I can’t breathe’.
“She was on her side, clearly in distress.”
A spokesperson said: “The woman was taken to hospital by the ambulance service but sadly later died. Adding that “The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
